Senior Quantity Surveyor

This is a genuine opportunity to join a construction business that’s not standing still. After years of steady growth across residential and development projects, the focus is now firmly on building a capable, well-structured commercial delivery division, one that’s set up to take on complex projects across New Zealand and do them properly.

It’s a business in transformation, with strong backing, smart leadership, and a clear plan to become a major commercial player over the next three to five years. They’ve already delivered $30 million+ apartment projects in Queenstown and are building a pipeline that includes commercial, residential, and mixed-use builds, supported by a wider group of aligned companies.

The leadership team values structure, accountability, and collaboration over chaos and ego. They’re putting the right systems (Procore), processes, and people in place to create an environment where good operators can thrive and grow.

The Role
You’ll sit at the heart of the commercial function, managing end-to-end financial performance across multiple live projects. This isn’t a siloed, spreadsheet-based role, you’ll be hands-on, working closely with delivery and project management teams to keep cost, scope, and communication aligned.

Key parts of your day will include:
  • Full project ownership from procurement through to final account
  • Managing variations, progress claims, and cost forecasting
  • Preparing and tracking budgets in collaboration with site and delivery teams
  • Ensuring clear communication between project, commercial, and finance functions
  • Using Procore (or similar systems) to maintain financial accuracy and transparency
  • Contributing ideas as the business continues to shape its commercial systems and reporting framework
The scope will suit someone who likes autonomy but still enjoys being part of a team that genuinely works together.

What They’re Looking For
They are clear on the kind of person who will succeed here and are looking for someone who:
  • Has main-contractor experience and knows how to run commercial projects independently
  • Has ideally worked within a design and build environment
  • Brings solid technical and financial skills, cost planning, procurement, forecasting, and claims
  • Operates with accountability, someone who takes ownership rather than waits for direction
  • Can balance independence with teamwork; no lone wolves here
  • Has clear communication and enjoys working directly with site managers and PMs
  • Shows career progression and commitment, not a series of short-term stops
  • Genuinely wants to be part of a business building capability, not just chasing the next title
It’s not about flashy credentials or polished buzzwords. We're looking for someone who’s competent, grounded, and motivated, someone who takes pride in doing things properly.

Culture and Direction
The culture is quietly ambitious. The team is reshaping what “commercial” looks like for the business, tightening systems, strengthening delivery, and raising standards.

It’s collaborative and open, but it’s also structured. You’ll find support when you need it, but also the freedom to get on with things.

Who This Suits
You might be an established Senior QS looking for a more purposeful role, or a strong Intermediate ready to step up where you’ll be trusted to own projects.
Either way, if you value working with capable people, clear processes, and real accountability, this is a team where your input will matter.
