Senior Project Manager

We’re partnering with a New Zealand owned design and build contractor that operates in a more specialist space of the market. Their projects are not repetitive commercial builds. They are technically demanding facilities where sequencing, integration, and upfront thinking genuinely matter.

The work spans sectors like food production, manufacturing, aquatics, and other specialist environments where services coordination, procurement timing, and build methodology are critical to success. These are projects where a Project Manager’s judgement makes a real difference.

This role is for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys being close to the detail without living in it, and who is comfortable taking ownership of outcomes rather than just managing process.

The role
  • You’ll be responsible for delivering complex design and build projects from early involvement through to completion.
  • You’ll take ownership of programme strategy, procurement planning, and commercial outcomes, making informed decisions as projects evolve.
  • You’ll coordinate consultants, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams to keep momentum and clarity across the build.
  • You’ll manage risk, sequencing, and long lead items in environments where poor planning has real consequences.
  • You’ll use structured systems and reporting to maintain control, while still keeping a practical, delivery focused approach.
  • You’ll operate with a high level of autonomy, with experienced senior support available when needed rather than constant oversight.

What we’re looking for
  • A Project Manager with proven experience delivering technically complex construction projects.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to understand where a project truly sits at any point in time.
  • Confidence in programming and procurement planning, particularly where sequencing and lead times are critical.
  • Comfortable working in a design and build environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Calm, pragmatic, and solutions focused, especially when projects get challenging.
  • System savvy and organised, with experience using formal PM or construction management platforms.
Experience guide
  • Typically 5 plus years operating as a Project Manager in a main contractor or design and build environment.
  • Demonstrated experience running projects end to end with responsibility for programme, procurement, and commercial outcomes.
  • Able to hold a top level view of a project while knowing when to step in and when to let the team deliver.
  • Confident representing the business with clients, consultants, and project partners.

Why this role

This is a business that values depth over volume and capability over titles. Project Managers are trusted, listened to, and given room to do their job properly. There is genuine opportunity to grow the scale and complexity of projects over time, without being rushed into a senior title before you are ready.

If you’re a Project Manager who enjoys complex builds, real ownership, and being treated like an adult, this is worth a confidential conversation.
