We’re working with a civil construction business that’s been operating locally for over 40 years. They’ve got about 65 staff, a tidy reputation, and they cover everything from earthworks to drainage to road construction - mainly across Queenstown, Wanaka, Cromwell, and Alexandra.
The job? Right now, it’s hands-on: servicing and repairing the fleet - trucks, diggers, graders, rollers, utes, you name it. But there’s a clear opportunity here to move into the Workshop Manager seat in the not-too-distant future. The current manager’s looking to retire, so if you’re someone who likes organising, planning ahead, and getting stuff running smoothly,not just fixing breakdowns,this could be right up your alley.
What the role looks like:
- Day-to-day servicing, breakdowns, and general maintenance across a range of gear
- Working closely with foremen and contract managers to keep things running smoothly
- Organising services, COFs, parts, consumables, liaising with suppliers (Terracat, etc)
- Helping manage a small team, there’s a junior learning the ropes and another part-timer in the mix
- Plenty of scope to step up as the current Workshop Manager transitions out
- Strong mechanical skills across heavy civil gear
- A practical, organised approach, someone who sees what needs doing and gets stuck in
- Willingness to take on a bit more than the tools, and grow into a planning/leadership role
- Ideally based locally (Alexandra), or open to relocating
- $40–$48/hr depending on experience
- Overtime available and flexible depending on how you’re used to working
- Modern workshop, good gear, and support to get what you need to do the job properly
