What’s the role about?
This role sits in the national bid team, reporting into a seasoned National Bid Manager, and is all about pulling together competitive pricing for maintenance contracts across New Zealand’s 3 waters network – some pushing $30m.
It's not just crunching numbers; it's about knowing the sector, pre-empting risks, and building out pricing models that actually stack up when they're out in the real world.
You’ll be responsible for:
- End-to-end estimating for multi-million-dollar maintenance contracts (from $10k through to $30m)
- Working alongside Bid Managers, Engineers, and the wider tender team to deliver sharp, smart proposals
- Interrogating specs, pulling together plant/labour/materials figures, and spotting construction risks early
- Using platforms like Benchmark (or something similar) to streamline your pricing approach
- Supporting continuous improvement across the bid function – new tools, better process, less fluff
This is a senior-level role, and it's treated like one – with a salary band that reflects your experience (we’re talking $130–150k) and the backing of a well-established national team. You’ll be part of the bidding strategy across major contracts that shape New Zealand’s water infrastructure landscape.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- 10+ years in estimating/tendering, ideally with infrastructure, civil or water sector exposure
- Strong commercial acumen and familiarity with NZS3910/NZS3917
- Confidence pricing complex projects and dissecting tender docs
- Bonus points if you’ve worked on local authority contracts or know your way around three waters
- A no-nonsense, get-it-done attitude – this team isn’t here to handhold
Please note - we do not always work to fixed closing dates and may start considering applications as they are received, so we encourage you to apply early.
