This isn’t your standard main-contractor PM role. We’re looking for someone who knows what it takes to run projects from the subcontractor side of the fence - where timing, communication, and problem-solving under pressure make all the difference.
About the Role
- Senior Project Manager position within a long-standing commercial subcontractor specialising in supply and install packages across major projects.
- Manage a portfolio of 6–10 live jobs at any time, from smaller installs through to multi-million-dollar contracts.
- Take projects from award through to completion: coordinating with main contractors, scheduling and variations, managing site crews, and ensuring delivery to programme.
- Work within a flat structure alongside experienced PMs, QSs and the directors, reporting directly to the business owners.
- Proven subcontractor project management experience in construction trades, flooring or interiors would be highly desirable.
- Confidence running jobs end-to-end - client liaison, programming, managing multiple moving parts, and staying on top of variations.
- Strong communication skills - able to build trust with main contractors while getting buy-in from installers on site.
- Competency with the practical side: Excel for costings, QA and variation tracking tools, and the ability to read and work from plans and take-offs.
- A collaborative operator who thrives in a flat structure and isn’t looking to “manage a team”, you’ll be hands-on, working closely with the crew and other PMs to get jobs delivered.
- Stability and growth, the company has been operating for over 30 years, with a strong pipeline of secured projects and long-term client relationships (including negotiated work that never goes to tender).
- A true team environment, family-owned and run, with a culture that’s collaborative and down-to-earth. You’ll work directly with the business owners, not through layers of hierarchy.
- Variety, projects range in size and scope, keeping the work interesting and giving you exposure across multiple sites and clients.
- Solid site resource, a strong in-house installer workforce, which means consistency, quality control, and the ability to deliver without relying purely on subcontracted labour.
- Growth on the horizon, with expansion plans beyond Auckland in the next 2–3 years, there’s real opportunity to grow with the business.
