HSE Specialist – Help Shape the Future of Site Safety
About the Company:
This well-established New Zealand-owned company delivers specialist design and build services within the water and wastewater sector. Known for their innovation and collaborative project delivery, they partner with major names across infrastructure, food & beverage, and utilities. You’ll be joining a passionate, down-to-earth team that’s all about quality, safety, and long-term sustainability.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a confident and people-focused HSE Specialist to support the growth of this business and help lift its health, safety, and environmental standards to the next level. This is a newly created role that builds on an existing foundation, allowing you to bring your own ideas and make it your own.
Based in Mt Wellington, you’ll work closely with the project delivery and P&C teams, guiding and mentoring site staff and ensuring systems are fit-for-purpose, practical, and embraced by the wider team. Expect a good balance of time in the office and out on site (roughly 70/30) in the company that is growing.
You’ll be part of a tight-knit and supportive culture that values initiative, celebrates progress, and genuinely backs its people.
What you’ll get to advise on:
- Health and safety systems, documentation, and continuous improvement
- Practical site-based safety engagement and support
- Subcontractor management support and engagement
- Coaching and mentoring of site teams
- Environmental compliance and sustainability reporting (including emissions reporting and ISO frameworks)
- Supporting site managers and PMs to maintain and improve HSE practices
- Maintaining systems like Mango and assisting with compliance readiness
- Helping to embed a strong culture of health, safety, and wellbeing
- Leading toolbox talks and facilitating HSE communications
- Coordinating with consultants and internal teams to meet project needs
- Conducting incident investigations using ICAM methodology
- Managing health, safety, and environmental registers and assurance plans
You’re an HSE all-rounder who knows how to build trust, influence others, and keep safety practical.
- A relevant qualification in health & safety
- Experience in construction, utilities, or infrastructure
- Confidence supporting teams across multiple sites
- Strong admin and documentation skills
- Great communication and the ability to get buy-in from the ground up
- Understanding of ISO45001/14001 and the Health & Safety at Work Act
- Supportive and values-driven team culture
- Varied, high-impact work with autonomy to grow the role
- Secure workload and pipeline of new projects
- Company vehicles available for site travel
- Real career progression and professional development
