Health & Safety Practitioner

Our client is a well-established commercial construction company with a strong presence across the North Island. They're known for combining the structure of a large business with the culture and values of a close-knit team. Even with a workforce of over 400, the business still feels personal, the leadership team is hands-on, approachable, and actively involved.

They’re now looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join their Wellington operations. This is a hands-on role that balances time on-site with critical support and admin work to help things run smoothly behind the scenes.

This role would suit someone who’s:
  • Confident running toolbox talks, inductions, and audits across active sites
  • Just as happy in steel caps and a hi-vis as they are reviewing documents and reporting incidents
  • Comfortable building rapport with a wide range of people - from site crews to senior managers
  • Organised, practical, and not afraid to speak up if something looks off
You’ll work closely with the national HSE team and local operational staff to make sure health and safety stays front and centre - not just as a process, but as part of the culture. The team values someone genuine, humble, and down to earth. It’s a great environment for someone who takes their work seriously but doesn’t take themselves too seriously.

Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in:
  • Managing HSE activities across a number of projects
  • Running inductions, toolbox talks, and site inspections
  • Managing incident investigations and subcontractor H&S documentation
  • Supporting digital systems and ordering safety gear
  • Assisting the National HSE Manager with reporting and ISO compliance
What they’re looking for:
  • 5+ years’ experience in a construction H&S role
  • Solid understanding of NZ H&S legislation
  • Confident communicator, site and office settings
  • Bonus points for crane/demolition/heavy plant experience
  • ISO45001 or ISO14001 exposure is a plus
Details:
  • Competitive salary and strong pipeline of work
  • Supportive, down-to-earth culture with solid leadership and genuine values
  • Great social calendar and inclusive team vibe
