About Role
Step into a pivotal senior leadership role where safety isn’t just a box to tick - it’s a strategic driver. As Health & Safety Manager, you’ll have a direct seat at the Senior Leadership Table and engage with the board to shape high-impact policies. You’ll lead the charge in building a proactive, empowered safety culture that puts people first and drives operational excellence. This is a prime opportunity for a proven leader to influence at the top level, turn strategy into action, and embed safety as a core business strength.
Key Highlights
- Partner with SLT and the board to drive safety strategy aligned with company values and project goals.
- Lead audits, inspections, and reviews to keep the H&S program sharp, compliant, and ahead of the curve.
- Own risk assessments and implement preventative actions to reduce incidents and raise safety standards.
- Deliver hands-on training and guidance that builds a strong, engaged safety mindset across all teams.
- Maintain key accreditations like ISO 45001 and ensure all systems meet evolving regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site visits, safety audits, and inspections across commercial construction projects
- Review and evolve H&S plans, including subcontractor pre-qualifications and site-specific safety submissions
- Manage documentation, monthly board reporting, accident/incident close-outs, and certification compliance
- Lead initiatives such as Mates in Construction, health checks, and quarterly company-wide safety presentations
- Engage in industry forums (e.g., CHASNZ, Vertical Construction) and contribute to the ongoing evolution of safety standards
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a H&S Manager
- Relevant H&S qualification and deep knowledge of NZ construction regulations
- Solid experience in commercial construction H&S, with strong knowledge of regs, risk management, and compliance.
- Confident communicator at SLT and board level - able to influence, advise, and shape strategic safety direction.
- Can balance big-picture thinking with on-the-ground execution
