Our client is a privately owned New Zealand civil and infrastructure contractor with a long history, strong regional roots and ambitious plans for the next stage of its growth.
The business delivers a range of specialist contracting services across civil infrastructure, underground utilities, excavation, drainage and environmental works. It has built its reputation through practical delivery, long-term client relationships and a genuine connection to the communities it serves.
As the business continues to grow, the Managing Director is looking for an experienced General Manager to take ownership of day-to-day performance while helping shape the next stage of the company's development.
Reporting directly to the MD, you'll lead the business across operations, commercial performance, people and client delivery. Working alongside regional leaders, you'll strengthen systems and accountability, support continued growth and ensure the business continues to deliver for both its clients and its people.
This is a broad leadership role suited to someone who is equally comfortable discussing strategy in the boardroom as they are spending time with operational teams on the ground.
Ideally, you'll come from a civil contracting, infrastructure, utilities, maintenance or specialist services background. You may already be operating as a General Manager, Regional Manager, Operations Manager or senior Business Unit Manager.
We're looking for experience across several of the following:
- Leading multi-site, regional or operational teams
- Full P&L ownership, budgeting and forecasting
- Civil infrastructure, underground services, utilities or maintenance operations
- Growing or improving an owner-led or privately held business
- Client relationship management and business development
- Managing plant, fleet, subcontractors and operational resources
- Improving systems and business performance
- Leading teams through growth and operational change
This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys working alongside an entrepreneurial owner and wants to make a genuine impact. You'll be practical, visible and comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment where no two days are the same.
In return, you'll join a well-established business with strong foundations, an excellent reputation and the opportunity to play a key role in its future growth.
