Construction Manager

Construction Manager

We’re working with a successful, family-owned contractor that has grown quickly and is now strengthening its leadership structure. They’re looking for a Construction Manager to take ownership of delivery across the Lower north island.

This is a practical, visible leadership role. You’ll work across the projects, build strong relationships with an experienced group of Project Managers and help them deliver consistently. The business has good people and a solid pipeline of work. It now needs a senior construction leader who can give the team the support and direction to match its growth.

What you’ll do
  • Take overall responsibility for construction delivery across a varied portfolio of commercial projects.
  • Stay close to the work through regular site visits, project meetings and conversations with clients and PMs.
  • Help PMs work through programme, buildability, quality and client issues before they become bigger problems.
  • Set clear expectations and follow up on performance, while giving experienced people the space to do their jobs.
  • Improve visibility across projects so leadership has a clear picture of progress, risks and issues.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Manager and QS team to understand project performance and take responsibility for delivery outcomes.
What you’ll bring
You’ll have a strong commercial construction background and experience delivering larger projects, with $20m-plus projects a useful guide. You’ll know what good looks like on site and be confident discussing methodology, programme, quality and buildability with experienced PMs.

You’ll also bring the people judgement this role needs. The team is established and capable, and each person has had a high degree of autonomy. You’ll need to earn their trust, offer practical support and be comfortable setting clear expectations when needed.

Strong commercial awareness matters, particularly when it comes to understanding project performance and asking the right questions. You won’t need to be the person preparing every cost report, but you will need to understand what the numbers are telling you and work well with the commercial and QS teams.

Why consider it
The business is growing and putting clearer leadership around its construction operation. You’ll work directly with the GM and alongside an incoming Commercial Manager, with a strong QS team around you.

There’s a genuine opportunity to shape how delivery works across the business.

Leadership values autonomy and backs people to get on with the job, with clear expectations and support when it’s needed.
