Account Director

ACCOUNT DIRECTOR
Christchurch | Contract Transformation | From Reactive to Strategic

We’re looking for a senior contract leader to take ownership of a large South Island services portfolio. It’s established, high-volume and operationally complex. It also needs tightening up.

Right now, the work mix is heavily reactive:
  • Responsive maintenance
  • Compliance activity
  • Reinstatement and upgrade works
  • Fragmented workflows
  • Capital spend that’s often driven by failure rather than planning
The opportunity is to bring structure, discipline and commercial clarity, and move the client conversation toward smarter asset planning and forward capital programmes.

This role is designed to evolve.
  • Phase 1 is to stabilise and strengthen by bringing commercial discipline, tightening workflows and resetting performance standards.
  • Phase 2 is to integrate and expand by aligning delivery models, improving cost-to-serve visibility and building asset intelligence.
  • Phase 3 is to broaden influence by moving the conversation from reactive maintenance toward structured capital works and longer-term asset planning.
Handled well, this role grows beyond operational oversight into sector-level leadership influence within a growing national business.

THE ROLE
  • Own the full P&L of a major government services contract
  • Lead and develop a team of 6 - 8 functional managers across commercial, operations and vendor management.
  • Strengthen cost control and margin performance
  • Clean up inefficient processes and unclear accountabilities
  • Improve transparency and reporting with senior government stakeholders
  • Help shift the portfolio from reactive maintenance to more structured asset planning
This is not a site-level FM role. It’s a contract leadership position with real commercial weight.

WHAT WE NEED
  • Proven P&L ownership in a complex service contract
  • Strong commercial judgement in high-volume maintenance environments
  • Experience working with government or highly regulated clients
  • A track record of stabilising or improving legacy contracts
  • Confidence operating at senior stakeholder level
You do not need direct sector experience; however, you do need to understand contract economics and how to run a disciplined service model.

This role requires someone who can see where money leaks, where processes slow things down, and where the client could be better supported, and then fix it.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The portfolio has scale and visibility within a growing national business.
Handled well, this role builds influence, both with the client and internally, and creates scope to expand into broader capital and asset advisory work.

Confidential conversations welcome.
